Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above the Heavenly host
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost

This Is Amazing Grace
V1: Who breaks the power
Of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty
And so much stronger?
The King of glory
The King above all kings

Who shakes the whole earth
With holy thunder?
And leaves us breathless
In awe and wonder?
The King of glory
The King above all kings

C: This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You laid down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh, Jesus, I sing for
All that You've done for me

V2: Who brings our chaos
Back into order?
Who makes the orphans
A son and daughter?
The King of glory
The King above all kings
Who rules the nations
With truth and justice
Shines like the sun in
All of its brilliance
The King of glory
The King above all kings

B: Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King
Who conquered the grave…
Worthy, worthy, worthy

Holy Holy Holy
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!

Psalm 95:1-7
1
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Great Are You Lord
V:
You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
And great are You, Lord

C: It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

B: And all the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry, these bones will sing
Great are You, Lord

Promises
V1: God of Abraham
You're the God of covenant
And of faithful promises
Time and time again, You have proven
You'll do just what You said

PC: Though the storms may come
And the winds may blow
I'll remain steadfast
And let my heart learn
When You speak a word
It will come to pass

C: Great is Your faithfulness to me
Great is Your faithfulness to me
From the rising sun to the setting same
I will praise Your name
Great is Your faithfulness to me

V2: God from age to age
Though the earth may pass away
Your word remains the same, yeah
Your history can prove
There's nothing You can't do
You're faithful and true

B: I put my faith in Jesus
My anchor to the ground
My hope and firm foundation
He'll never let me down

Great is Thy Faithfulness
V: Great is Thy faithfulness
O God my Father
There is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassions
They fail not
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be

C: Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me

Confession of Sin-Henry Van Dyke (1852-1933)-based on 1 Kings 17
American author, poet, academic, clergyman and diplomat

All: (Palms down) Most holy and merciful Father; we acknowledge and confess before You our sinful nature and all our shortcomings and offenses. We are prone to evil and slothful to do good.

You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering from Your way, in wasting Your gifts, in forgetting Your love. But You, O Lord, have mercy on us, who are ashamed and sorry for all we have displeased You in. Teach us to hate our errors, cleanse us from our secret faults, and forgive our sins for the sake of Your dear Son.

And O most holy and loving Father, help us to live in Your light and walk in Your ways, according to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hear the Gospel of Christ - (1 John 1:5, 7, 9; 2:1-2)

Leader: (Palms Up) This is the message we have heard from Him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all... If we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin...

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness... We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He is the expiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

Build My Life
V1:
Worthy of every song
We could ever sing
Worthy of all the praise
We could ever bring
Worthy of every breath
We could ever breathe
We live for You, oh, we live for You

V2: Jesus, the Name above
Every other name
Jesus, the only One
Who could ever save
Worthy of every breath
We could ever breathe
We live for You, we live for You

C: Holy, there is no one like You
There is none beside You
Open up my eyes in wonder
And show me who You are
And fill me with Your heart
And lead me in Your love
To those around me

B: And I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
And I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken
And I will build my life upon Your love
It is a firm foundation
And I will put my trust in You alone
And I will not be shaken

Make Room
V:
Here is where I lay it down
Every burden every crown
This is my surrender, this is my surrender
Here is where I lay it down
Every lie and every doubt
This is my surrender

C: And will make room for You
To do whatever You want to
Do whatever You want to

B: Shake up the ground of all my tradition
Breakdown the walls of all my religion
Your way is better, Your way is better

C2: Here is where I lay it down
You are all I'm chasing now
This is my surrender

Resurrecting
V1:
The head that once was
Crowned with thorns
Is crowned with glory now
The Savior knelt to wash our feet
Now at His feet we bow

V2: The One who wore
Our sin and shame
Now robed in majesty
The radiance of perfect love
Now shines for all to see

C: Your name, Your name is victory
All praise, will rise, to Christ, our king

V3: The fear that held us now gives way
To Him who is our peace
His final breath upon the cross
Is now alive in me

B: By Your spirit I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me
In Your name I come alive
To declare Your victory
The resurrected King, is resurrecting me

V4: The tomb where
Soldiers watched in vain
Was borrowed for three days
His body there would not remain
Our God has robbed the grave
Our God has robbed the grave

Glorious Day
V1:
I was buried beneath my shame
Who could carry that kind of weight?
It was my tomb, 'til I met You

V2: I was breathing, but not alive
All my failures I tried to hide
It was my tomb, ‘til I met You

C: You called my name
And I ran out of that grave
Out of the darkness
Into Your glorious day
You called my name
And I ran out of that grave
Out of the darkness
Into Your glorious day

V3: Now Your mercy has saved my soul
Now Your freedom is all that I know
The old made new
Jesus, when I met You

B: I needed rescue
My sin was heavy
But chains break
At the weight of Your glory
I needed shelter
I was an orphan
But You call me a citizen of Heaven
When I was broken
You were my healing
Now Your love is the air that I'm breathing
I have a future
My eyes are open
'Cause when you called my name…

In Christ Alone
V1:
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand

V2: In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

V3: There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

V4: No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

Lord I Need You
V1:
Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here, I find my rest
Without You, I fall apart
You're the one that guides my heart

C: Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour, I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

V2: Where sin runs deep, Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

B: So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand, I'll fall on You
Jesus, You're my hope and stay

I Thank God
V:
Wandering into the night
Wanting a place to hide
This weary soul
This bag of bones
And I try with all my might
But I just can't win the fight
I'm slowly drifting a vagabond

PC: And just when I ran out of road
I met a man I didn't know
And He told me that I was not alone

C: He picked me up
He turned me around
He placed my feet on solid ground
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior
Because He healed my heart
He changed my name
Forever free, I'm not the same
I thank the Master, I thank the Savior
I thank God

V2: I cannot deny what I see
Got no choice but to believe
My doubts are burning
Like ashes in the wind
So, so long to my old friends
Burden and bitterness
You can just keep it moving!
Nah, you ain't welcome here

PC: From now 'til I walk the streets of gold
I'll sing of how You saved my soul
This wayward son has
Found his way back home

B: Oh, Hell lost another one
I am free, I am free, I am free

Goodness of God
V1:
I love You, Lord
For Your mercy never fails me
All my days, I've been
Held in Your hands
From the moment that I wake up
Until I lay my head
Oh, I will sing of the
Goodness of God

C: All my life You have been faithful
And all my life You have been so, so good
With every breath that I am able
Oh, I will sing of the goodness of God

V2: I love Your voice
You have led me through the fire
In the darkest night
You are close like no other
I've known You as a Father
I've known You as a Friend
And I have lived in the
Goodness of God

B: Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
Your goodness is running after
It's running after me
With my life laid down
I'm surrendered now
I give You everything
'Cause Your goodness is running after
It's running after me

Living Hope
V1:
How great the chasm that lay between us
How high the mountain I could not climb
In desperation, I turned to heaven
And spoke your name into the night
Then through the darkness
Your loving kindness
Tore through the shadows of my soul
The work is finished, the end is written
Jesus Christ, my living hope

V2: Who could imagine so great a mercy?
What heart could fathom such boundless grace?
The God of ages stepped down from glory
To wear my sin and bear my shame
The cross has spoken, I am forgiven
The king of kings calls me His own
Beautiful savior, I'm yours forever
Jesus Christ, my living hope

C: Hallelujah, praise the one who set me free
Hallelujah, death has lost its grip on me
You have broken every chain
There's salvation in your name
Jesus Christ, my living hope

V3: Then came the morning that sealed the promise
Your buried body began to breathe
Out of the silence, the roaring lion
Declared the grave has no claim on me

Graves into Gardens
V1:
I searched the world
But it couldn't fill me
Man's empty praise
And treasures that fade
Are never enough

V2: Then You came along
And put me back together
And every desire
Is now satisfied
Here in Your love

C: Oh, there's nothing better than You
There's nothing better than You
Lord, there's nothing
Nothing is better than You

V3: I'm not afraid
To show You my weakness
My failures and flaws
Lord, You've seen 'em all
And You still call me friend

V4: 'Cause the God of the mountain
Is the God of the valley
There's not a place
Your mercy and grace
Won't find me again

B: You turn mourning to dancing
You give beauty for ashes
You turn shame into glory
You're the only one who can

B2: You turn graves into garden
You turn bones into armies
You turn seas into highways
You're the only one who can
You're the only one who can

Confession
PCUSA Book of Common Worship Louisville: Westminster John Knox, 1993; p. 88

Gracious God, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, and what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in Your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Amen.

Assurance of God’s Love

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Prayer of Petition - Sarum Primer (Salisbury, England) 1558

God be in my head, and in my understanding. God be in mine eyes, and in my looking. God be in my mouth, and in my speaking God be in my heart, and in my thinking. God be at mine end, and at my departing.

Prayer of St. Ephrem of Edessa (306-373)
Christian Deacon, Theologian, and Hymnogrypher

O Lord and Master of my life, spare me from the spirit of apathy and meddling, of idle chatter and love of power. Instead, grant to me, Your servant, the spirit of integrity and humility, of patience and love. Yes, O Lord and God, grant me the grace to be aware of my sins and not to judge others, for You are blessed, now and ever and forever. Amen.

Prayer of St. Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274) - Italy

Grant me grace, O merciful God, to desire ardently all that is pleasing to You, to examine it prudently, to acknowledge it truthfully, and to accomplish it perfectly, for the praise and glory of Your name. Amen.

Prayer of St Benedict (6th Century)

All: Gracious and holy Father, grant us the intellect to understand You, reason to discern You, diligence to seek You, wisdom to find You, a spirit to know You, a heart to meditate upon You.

May our ears hear You, may our eyes behold You, and may our tongues proclaim You. Give us grace that our way of life may be pleasing to You, that we may have the patience to wait for You and the perseverance to look for You.

Grant us a perfect end: Your holy presence, a blessed resurrection and life everlasting. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of St Francis of Assisi (1181-1226) - Italy
Catholic friar, deacon, philosopher, mystic and preacher

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace:
-where there is hatred, let me sow love;
-where there is injury, pardon;
-where there is doubt, faith;
-where there is despair, hope;
-where there is darkness, light;
-where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

Prayer of St. Ignacious of Loyola (1491-1556) - Spain
Priest and Theologian. Founder of the Jesuit Order.

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will; all I have and call my own. You have given all to me; to You, Lord, I return it. Everything is Yours; do with it what You will. Give me only Your love and Your grace. That is enough for me. Amen.

Episcopal Prayer in Suffering

God, You are my help and comfort; Would You shelter and surround me in love so tender that I may know Your presence with me, now and always. Amen.

Prayer by Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
America Reformed Theologian and Professor

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Prayer in Suffering:  2 Corinthians 12:9

He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
